The innovative EQS electric luxury sedan by Mercedes-Benz is due to arrive next year, and EV enthusiasts love what they see! People are calling the upcoming Mercedes EQS sedan a slayer in the game of electric vehicles. Mercedes is planning to put about 6 electric vehicles on the market by 2022. And amazingly, the forefront star of the three-pointed electric vehicle’s pursuits is going to be the EQS.

More and more people are interested in this gamechanger of the electric vehicle industry and want to know what to expect from Mercedes. Things are heating up in the electric automotive industry! Let’s look at a detailed overview of the EQS to get to know more about this electric car’s different aspects in a more effective way.

Mercedes-Benz EQS Overview

The Mercedes EQS sedan will ride on a dedicated electric vehicle platform known as EVA2, unlike the electric crossover of the Mercedes EQC that’s based on GLC. It may be one of Mercedes’ EV S class, but this model will not share its architecture with the recently redesigned flagship sedan of the company.

Even though there is not much news about the specifications of the EQS, we suspect Mercedes will initially debut with an all-wheel-drive model. There might be a 100 kWh battery pack approximately.

NOTE: The images featured within this article are of the Vision EQS, but we anticipate similar design and features with the 2022 EQS model.

Design

The Mercedes EQS is expected to be a medium-sized electric sedan that may sit alongside the recent S-Class model. The new sedan will be an all-inclusive yet luxurious alternative to the Tesla Model S. Although there are few hints to what the actual design looks like, the EQS has a very similar appearance to the Vision EQS model.

It has promised to feature more amazing tech specs than the latest S-Class model that has been released. The design of the EQS is highly inspired by the concept of EQS Vision that was unleashed in 2019.

The vehicle’s overall design is quite long and rounded with the curved roof, which exaggerates the length of the car and makes it look like a four-door coupe.

The bonnet of the EQS sedan looks a bit shorter than its S-Class model. But the shape of the roofline is pretty well-defined. Overall, the look of the Mercedes EQS sedan will be sleek, sporty, and luxurious.

MBUX Hyperscreen Technology

The Mercedes EQS sedan’s interior is based on a new platform that will let it have enhanced interior space with a luxurious feel. The new model will also feature the latest 56-inch MBUX Hyperscreen infotainment display and AI system.

This system will come up with three displays that are set in a single glass dashboard design. It is the largest display screen fitted to any Mercedes model ever. More amazingly, the screen is designed to reduce the scrolling needed to access the key features.

Price

Straightforwardly, Mercedes has not hinted at the price of the EQS yet. The company has also not revealed when this electric vehicle will be on sale. However, as it is a model from the EV market, we expect its price to be below a six-digit figure. But let’s see what will happen in the coming months.

Performance, Motor, and Transmission

It is expected that the Mercedes EQS will be powered by a pair of electric motors, which will offer an all-wheel driving system. The official power output of the EQS sedan is not yet announced, but as per the Vision EQS concept, we can expect to experience 560 lb-ft of torque combined with 469 horsepower.

The company estimates that the large sedan should go from 0 to 60 mph within just 4.5 seconds.

The upcoming EQS electric sedan will debut an all-new platform that will support future EV models exclusively from Mercedes-Benz.

We also expect the EQS sedan to offer a smooth ride quality combined with a quiet cabin and enhanced overall performance. However, we have to wait a bit more to get behind the wheel to know more about it.

Battery Life and Range

On the basic concept EV, it is plausible that the Mercedes EQS sedan will fuel its pair of electric motors with a battery pack of about 100 kWh. It is also expected that it will come up with a fast-charging port, allowing its users to replenish 80 percent of the sedan’s battery within 20 minutes.

The driving range of the EQS is expected to be around 300 miles.

Safety Features

The 2022 Mercedes EQS has not yet been crash-tested by the IIHS (Insurance Institute of Highway Safety) or NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). However, it’s expected that this upcoming model will offer a wider array of advanced safety and driver-assistance features to ensure a safer drive in the best possible way.

Mercedes is expected to develop some contemporary equipment such as automated emergency braking and adaptive cruise control. It is also expected that the user might experience Level 3 autonomy, which means the EQS will be capable of self-driving for long-stretches, particularly on the highway.

Mercedes is also offering powertrain and competitive limited warranties that will be more like what other luxury brands offer to ensure customer satisfaction.

Final Thoughts

The Mercedes EQS will let the users experience a quieter and roomier S-Class sedan with a dazzling digital grille. Overall expectations are currently based on the company’s Vision EQS concept model, as we wait for more details to be announced. Consumers are expecting those various impressive characteristics of the Vision EQS to be translated to the production model.

The expectations for the Mercedes EQS seem pretty high, but we are excited to see what happens with this model throughout the year.
