About the Hyundai IONIQ Electric

Hyundai’s premier car for the electric vehicle (EV) market is the IONIQ electric hatchback. And it is not ironic that the IONIQ gives the competition a run for their money. Hyundai has achieved a modicum of respect in the automobile market since it first arrived on the scene. Now it is leveraging the latest technology to make its vehicles more attractive to the consumer.

The IONIQ is certainly not a new name in the EV market as this line of vehicles was introduced in 2016, but it is following the trajectory that Hyundai set out to achieve.  Their goal is to capture at least 10 percent of the EV market by 2025. So, how is it panning out?

Well, for one thing, the IONIQ is well-positioned for its current target market. It has some great new features, stylish looks and is reasonably priced.  One of the Hyundai motor company’s strengths is its willingness and ability to adopt the latest technology for its vehicles. The ultimate target for Hyundai and its fleet is an innovation that is robust and dependable.

The IONIQ electric hatchback has that and more. Here is just a quick look at some of Hyundai’s aspects encapsulated with this electric vehicle.  A nimble and good-looking car, the IONIQ offers a longer powertrain warranty than its competitors and, no surprise here delivers better fuel efficiency.

Performance

The IONIQ puts safety first. Its 134 horsepower engine glides up to a comfortable 60 miles per hour in a nimble amount of time; 8.3 seconds is among the industry standard. While it will not blow a Tesla out of the water, it will certainly perform nicely for the price.

This car is meant for the city. It has enough features (more about that later) to make the drive interesting and efficient along city streets. A vehicle that offers convenience, flexibility, and maneuverability is the key to city driving. A car that can easily glide into the tightest parking spaces is made for driving in town.

Further enhancing the driving experience is the IONIQ is not designed to be a sports car. In fact, it is just the opposite. However, compared to such a car, the Ionic has a firm suspension and tight steering, and an excellent combination for local driving. Simple, strident, and sturdy is what the IONIQ is all about.

Ultimately, the IONIQ provides the same type of performance as one of the more souped-up turbo diesels.  Acceleration is steady, and it is quick enough to get you into the merge lane without issue. It is quick from a full stop and efficient when a full stop is needed.

Charging Hyundai IONIQ Electric Car Battery

Battery

Depending on which model you buy, the hybrid or the fully electric, battery charging times will vary. It is not by much but here are some basic stats; while the hybrid model can achieve a full charge, using either a 110- or 120-volt outlet, within about 9 hours, charging on a 240-volt service will achieve capacity in a little under two hours.

And that will get you roughly 170 miles of travel. And while the IONIQ sports a 38-kWh pack that may be less than the competition, this unit’s charge time is significantly shorter than its rivals. We mentioned the 240-volt connection.  The IONIQ battery can be charged from depleted (0) to 80% capacity in under one hour. The IONIQ has one seriously fast-charging battery bank!

Range

While mileage may vary depending on your driving habits, the Hyundai IONIQ EV delivers a robust 170 miles on a single charge. This means it beats the Chevy Volt in distance, no small feat. When the gasoline engine is engaged, the IONIQ can easily achieve an EPA estimate of 58 mpg city and 61 mpg highway. This makes it among the best hybrid EVs on the market today.

The parsimonious fuel consumption of the Hyundai IONIQ puts it in the lead among the competition. While it’s taut ride and quick handling make it ideal for local driving. And the all-electric range of this vehicle is comparable to the Nissan Leaf or the Chevrolet Volt.

Price

The price of the IONIQ is what you would expect for any middle-of-the-road bargain car. Except that the car’s features really help to make this vehicle a value proposition. The base sticker price is anywhere from the mid $20,000 to the mid $30,000 range, depending on the options you are looking for. However, the IONIQ is designed to be comfortable and driver-friendly at any level.

But does that make it worth the price? When you consider that the finest engineering and latest technology has gone into making this EV more than a standard EV, then, yes, it is absolutely worth the price. A simple test drive will help you to understand.  Moreover, the IONIQ can meet the competition head-on in regards to price.
